Koen Smit was born in Velp (the Netherlands). He attended the Pabo (academy for primary school teachers) after which he attained his Bachelor’s in Pedagogical Sciences and his Research Master’s degree at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. In daily life Koen likes to be outdoors all the time, to travel and to explore the world’s beer varieties.

Drinking motives among young adults: an event-level study

By repeatedly measuring alcohol use in the event via smartphones (Ecological Momentary Assessments, EMA), we aimed to identify associations between drinking motives and young adults’ real time drinking. Biography and Research Interests

Koen’s main research interest is substance (ab)use. During his Research Master he investigated drinking motives for alcohol use among young adults on weekend evenings. During his PhD at the Radboud University in Nijmegen and the Trimbos Institute in Utrecht he researches the developmental transition from alcohol expectancies to drinking motives and alcohol consumption during adolescence.
